Our Healthcare Initiative
Idahoans for Healthcare gives voters the chance to help tens of thousands of our friends, neighbors and family members who are slipping through the cracks in our healthcare system.
Many of these Idahoans – working moms and dads and seniors nearing retirement who can’t find a job with health coverage – are forced to decide whether they can afford life-saving healthcare for themselves or their families because they’re caught in what’s known as the “coverage gap.” They earn too much to qualify for Medicaid and too little to be eligible for financial assistance through Idaho’s health insurance exchange.
This ballot measure would fix the problem by providing Idahoans with access to healthcare through Medicaid if they earn less than $17,000 a year or $29,000 a year for a family of three.
Our Solution
The ballot measure will give Idahoans the chance to decide this healthcare issue for ourselves and finally close the health coverage gap. It will provide access to quality and affordable healthcare to 62,000 Idahoans, and it will do so in a way that financially benefits our state.
By expanding Medicaid, we’ll bring more of our tax money home from Washington, D.C. every year – funds that have been going to other states instead. This will help pay for the Medicaid expansion, boost our economy and create thousands of new jobs here in Idaho. The measure will also save money by significantly reducing state and county costs for treating uninsured patients in emergency rooms, which is the most expensive way to provide care.
